Jones out of Braves' lineup with back spasms

Published Jul. 9, 2010 1:00 a.m. ET

Jones was set to start for the NL East-leading Braves on Friday, batting third and playing third base for the opener of a three-game series against the second-place New York Mets. But manager Bobby Cox says he did not know of Jones' injury when he made the order.

Jones' back problem flared up on the off day Thursday. He went 4 for 12 with a homer in the three-game series in Philadelphia.

Cox says Jones is day to day.

Omar Infante moved from right field to third base and dropped from second to third in the order. Gregor Blanco was inserted as the center fielder and No. 8 batter. Melky Cabrera moved from eighth to second and from center to right field.
