Jim Riggleman to manage Nationals in 2010

Published Nov. 12, 2009 7:45 p.m. ET

Jim Riggleman will be the Washington Nationals manager in 2010, the team announced on Thursday. Riggleman received the job on a permanent basis after being promoted from bench coach to interim manager in July, replacing fired skipper Manny Acta. The Nationals went 26-61 under Acta in 2009, then 33-42 under Riggleman. The Nationals are the fourth Major League Baseball team Riggleman has managed, after the San Diego Padres, Chicago Cubs and Seattle Mariners over the last 10 seasons. His best year came with the 1998 Cubs, who were led by National League MVP Sammy Sosa's 66 homers and went 90-73 to make the playoffs as a wild card.
