Indians sign catcher Carlin

The Cleveland Indians have signed catcher Luke Carlin to a minor league contract and invited him to their spring training camp.

Carlin was acquired in an August trade from Pittsburgh. The switch-hitter spent last season at the Triple-A level, batting .238 with four homers and 29 RBIs in 76 games. He batted .350 in six International League playoff games for Columbus.

Carlin appeared in six games for the Indians. He went 5-for-14 with two homers and three RBIs. He has appeared in 52 games with San Diego, Arizona and Cleveland since 2008.
