Indians release OF Kearns

Published Aug. 18, 2011 3:30 p.m. ET

Outfielder Austin Kearns has been released by the Cleveland Indians.

Kearns cleared waivers and was let go on Thursday by the Indians, who designated the veteran for assignment last week.

The 31-year-old hit .200 (30 for 150) with two homers and seven RBIs in 52 games. He signed as a free agent with Cleveland in December, his second stint with the Indians.

Last season, Kearns played in 84 games with the Indians before they traded him to the New York Yankees before the July 31 deadline for pitcher Zach McAllister.
