Carlos Santana had surgery to repair his left knee that will sideline the Cleveland Indians rookie until spring training.
The operation on Santana's lateral collateral ligament was performed by Dr. Rick Parker on Friday at Cleveland Clinic.
Santana was hurt in a collision at home plate Monday night as he tagged out Ryan Kalish of the Boston Red Sox. Santana had his left leg extended to block Kalish's path to the plate. He reached to take the throw from right fielder Shin-Soo Choo, was hit by Kalish and spun around.
The Indians said no other issues were found in the joint and Santana is expected to be ready for next season.
