Humber attends to expectant wife

Published Apr. 24, 2012 1:00 a.m. ET

White Sox pitcher Phil Humber has flown home to Chicago to be with his wife as they prepare for the birth of their first child.

The team says Humber, who pitched the 21st perfect game in major league history Saturday at Seattle, will maintain his workouts ahead of his next scheduled start on Thursday at home against Boston. Manager Robin Ventura still expects Humber to make his start, joking, ''He's no good to us today so he can go home.''

Humber, claimed off waivers from Oakland on Jan. 18, 2011, struck out nine in his 4-0 perfect game against the Mariners - the third in White Sox franchise history.
