Hear touching farewell song for Jerry Coleman, 'The Man Who Hung the Stars'

Tim Flannery, a former San Diego Padre whose career not only included many years of having his exploits described by Jerry Coleman but who also played under Coleman in his one season as Padres manager, performed a tribute song on Saturday at a farewell to the beloved broadcaster/former major leaguer/war hero.

Flannery had come up with the song, "The Man Who Hung the Stars," years before, but it could not have sounded more fitting than at Petco Park on Saturday, as fans and friends gathered to say goodbye to the man they called "the Colonel."
