Guillen says too soon to drop Reyes in order
Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen has thought about flipping Jose Reyes and Emilio Bonifacio at the top of Miami's lineup, just not yet.
''Right now, I think it's too early,'' Guillen said before the Marlins played the New York Mets on Wednesday night. ''If I do it, right now, it's kind of pushing the panic button.''
The reigning NL batting champion, Reyes is hitting .215 with an on-base percentage of .278 in 16 games with his new team. He went 0 for 4 in his return to New York on Tuesday. Bonifacio, who bats second, is hitting .295 with a .394 OBP.
Guillen is confident Reyes, a four-time All-Star shortstop, will snap out of his slump.
''This guy is a premiere hitter,'' Guillen said. ''I'm not panicking. That's going to be my guy.''
With the Marlins batting .237, tied for 12th in the NL, entering Wednesday's game, Guillen was quick to note that Reyes was not his only problem.
''A lot of people talk about Reyes struggling but we've got a few people there,'' he said.
