Giants manager Bochy and pitcher Heston share connection beyond no-hitter

Giants pitcher Chris Heston’s no-hitter on Tuesday is just the latest tie between him and his manager Bruce Bochy. The two were both raised in Brevard County along Florida’s Space Coast.

Bochy told Florida Today that he made sure the team knew:

"I mentioned that in the celebration he was a homie,'' said Bochy, a graduate of Melbourne High School. "It really added a little bit to a special evening.’'

It was already set to be a special evening as Heston’s performance secured Bochy’s 700th win as Giants manager. According to Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News, Bochy joins Sparky Anderson, Tony La Russa and Jim Leyland as the only big league skippers with 700 wins with two different clubs. Bochy collected 951 wins with the Padres.

According to Baggarly, people who couldn’t get a hold of Heston tried reaching out to Bochy:

“He’s from my hometown and they couldn’t get a hold of him,” Bochy said. “So they were wearing me out. I said, `Chris, you’re killing me.’”
