Freese, Berkman, Beltran back in Cardinals' lineup

World Series MVP David Freese, Lance Berkman and Carlos Beltran have recovered from their injuries and returned to the lineup for the St. Louis Cardinals.

All three stars were playing Tuesday night as the Cardinals opened a three-game series at home against Cincinnati.

Berkman missed four games because of a strained left calf and Freese was out for two days with an irritated finger on his right hand. Beltran left Sunday's game against the Chicago Cubs after being hit on the right forearm by a pitch from Paul Maholm.

Berkman's return sent rookie Matt Carpenter to the bench. During Berkman's absence, Carpenter went 8 for 16 and hit his first career home run.
