Former Royals/current Giants Aoki, Maxwell receive their rings

Published Apr. 26, 2015 6:46 p.m. ET

Both Nori Aoki and Justin Maxwell were part of the Royals team which the Giants beat in the World Series last year, which means they were both owed their American League championship rings. They finally received them on Saturday -- fitting because they both played critical parts in the Giants’ 5-4 extra-inning win over the Rockies. Maxwell hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning and Aoki scored the game winner in the 11th.

Both players have been welcome additions to a Giants outfield which has been missing Hunter Pence this year. Maxwell is hitting .308 with three homers and nine RBIs, while Aoki is batting .303 with five stolen bases in the leadoff spot.

Aoki had a humorous take on the presentation of his ring, according to the Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News:

“You could tell they were poking fun at me at the same time,” said Aoki, through translator Kosuke Inaji. “Everybody was like, `Oh, congratulations, but our ring is made out of all gold.’”

In case you missed it, the Giants recently announced how former Giants Pablo Sandoval would be getting his golden ring.
