Doubront to make debut for Red Sox on Friday

Published Jun. 16, 2010 8:53 p.m. ET

Pitcher Felix Doubront (DOO'-brahnt) will make his major league debut Friday for the Boston Red Sox against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The 22-year-old Venezuelan lefty began the season 4-0 in his first eight starts in Double-A Portland.

He will be taking Daisuke Matsuzaka's turn in the rotation. Matsuzaka was scratched just before the first pitch of his scheduled start Saturday and went on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained forearm.

Doubront is 6-1 with a 2.11 ERA in Double- and Triple-A this season.
