Dodgers hold team meeting regarding struggles on offense

The Dodgers have been struggling to score lately. It took a balk for them to score their only run on Thursday. According to ESPN’s Mark Saxon, manager Don Mattingly and hitting coach Mark McGwire organized a team meeting before Thursday’s game to impress upon the team the need to have better at bats. Mattingly said:

“It’s not that complicated, really, just the mentality of team baseball, getting a good pitch, making him fight for his out, don’t give him any easy ones.”

Easier said than done, of course. Saxon points out that the team was averaging 5.3 runs per game on May 12, but since then that average is down by nearly two runs. Over their last seven games, the Dodgers are averaging 2.3 runs. They’ve managed to go 3-4 over the past week.
