Dodgers content with trajectory of bullpen as October nears

The Dodgers' recent Achilles' heel in the postseason has been their bullpen. While it seemed as though that might ring true again this season, the bullpen has recent held its own for the team, which has the front office at ease.
"With a bullpen, it's about trajectory and where they're heading as much as where they have been, so we're kind of looking forward with this group and think the guys are sort of figuring it out," general manager Farhan Zaidi said.
While the Dodgers are now confident in their bullpen with the all-important month of October on the horizon, that certainly hasn't been the case for the majority of the season.
For the 2015 season, the Dodgers' bullpen ranks 12th in the NL in ERA (3.97) and 10th in both opponent batting average (.244) and opponents OPS (.695).
Nonetheless, one of the Dodgers most effective relievers in high-pressure situations, Luis Avilan, who was acquired from the Atlanta Braves at the trade deadline, notes that it's hard to judge a bullpen by where it stands statistically.
"You know what? I always say you can't judge a reliever just by ERA," said Avilan, whose ERA is at 4.11 on the season.
If September is an indicator of how the bullpen will perform in the postseason, the Dodgers are poised to be in good hands.
This month, the Dodgers' bullpen ranks third amongst all NL teams in holds (13) and is tied for second in saves (6). However, its ERA for the month stands at a mediocre 3.88.
Nonetheless, the relievers in Los Angeles' 'pen are confident they can get the job done, in whatever month it may be.
"Whenever we have to show up and do our job, I'm sure we're going to do it," Avilan said.
