Despite surge, Rangers' Fielder not among All-Star vote leaders yet

Published May. 26, 2015 11:44 p.m. ET

If Prince Fielder winds up in the All-Star Game this July, it might be as a reserve player.

Despite the slugger's recent offensive tear (heading into Tuesday he was hitting .365/.417/.575 with nine home runs and 35 RBIs in 2015), he isn't among the leading vote-getters at first base on MLB's new update released on Tuesday. The top five first basemen in terms of voting are Eric Hosmer of the Kansas City Royals, Miguel Cabrera of the Detroit Tigers, Mark Teixeira of the New York Yankees, Jose Abreu of the Chicago White Sox and Albert Pujols of the Los Angeles Angels.

Fielder has experienced a renaissance as a premier slugger in the Rangers' lineup this season, and is a key reason they're working on a seven-game winning streak after Tuesday's victory.

As for third baseman Adrian Beltre, he currently ranks fifth in A.L. voting among third base candidates, with 205,836 votes tallied in his favor.

Fielder's absence in the rankings comes as he leads the league in hitting with that .365 batting average, and his firepower has been noticed by his manager. As Jeff Banister told August Fagerstrom of MLB.com: "I can't say enough about what he does and what he means. You can't overstate it, but you cant understate it either. The consistency from start until now, and even in Spring Training -- he was doing this in Spring Training."

Fan voting for the All-Star Game runs through July 2nd, with the game scheduled for Tuesday, July 14th at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati.
