Despite loss, Fiers pleased with performance

While Mike Fiers and the Brewers would have preferred to win the game, Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the White Sox was not all bad news.

Fiers allowed two runs in 6 1/3 innings, was really pleased with the outing and believes he is just a bit closer to becoming the pitcher he knows he can be.

“I'm still not as consistent as I think I should be or want to be this season, but again, this is another step in the right direction,” Fiers told Brewers.com.

Fiers is just 1-4 on the season, but two of his last three outings have been quality starts and his new manager also feels he's on the brink of breaking out.

“I think Mike is, like, this, close,” Brewers manager Craig Counsell said. “I really think Mike is right on the edge of really breaking out here. The stuff, the strikeouts tell you that. The strikeouts tell youwhat the hitter is feeling. I'm confident in Mike moving forward.”
