Davey Lopes tells Phils he won't return as coach

Published Nov. 1, 2010 6:55 p.m. ET

Davey Lopes has informed the Philadelphia Phillies he won't return as first-base coach, the team says.

Lopes spent the last four seasons with the Phillies, and played a significant role in the team's success in stealing bases. Under Lopes, the Phillies led the league in stolen-base percentage four straight seasons.

Lopes was a four-time All-Star second baseman with the Los Angeles Dodgers during a 16-year career. He also managed the Milwaukee Brewers for two years and parts of another.
