The Chicago Cubs have promoted left-hander Brooks Raley from Triple-A Iowa to start against the San Diego Padres.

Raley was scheduled to pitch Tuesday night, making him the eighth Cubs player to debut in the major leagues this season. He was 4-8 with a 3.62 ERA in 14 starts for Iowa and 2-2 with a 3.51 ERA in eight starts at Double-A Tennessee.

Raley takes the roster spot of Matt Garza, placed on the 15-day disabled list Monday with an elbow injury. The right-hander hasn't pitched since July 21 at St. Louis and is out indefinitely. He is 5-7 with a 3.91 ERA in 18 starts.
