Cubs C Geovany Soto scratched with sore left knee

Published May. 17, 2012 9:20 p.m. ET

Cubs catcher Geovany Soto has been scratched from the lineup against the Philadelphia Phillies because of left knee inflammation.

Soto was set to bat seventh Thursday night but instead was replaced by backup Welington Castillo. The Cubs said Soto is day to day.

Soto is off to a slow start, batting .161 with three homers and six RBIs. The 29-year-old catcher hit .228 with 17 homers and 54 RBIs for Chicago last season.

Castillo began the season with Triple-A Iowa and was recalled after Steve Clevenger was placed on the 15-day disabled list because of a right oblique injury.
