Right-hander Todd Wellemeyer, who broke in with the Chicago Cubs in 2003, has agreed to a minor league contract with the team.

The deal, first reported by ESPN.com, would be worth $800,000 if Wellemeyer is added to the Cubs' 40-man roster. He will go to spring training next month in Mesa, Ariz.

Wellemeyer was 3-5 with a 5.68 ERA last season with the Giants when he made 11 starts. He has appeared in 208 major league games and has a 32-34 record with a 4.83 ERA. The 32-year-old-right-hander has made 75 career starts and also pitched with the Marlins, Royals and Cardinals.
