Clemens trial may lose another juror

Published May. 25, 2012 1:00 a.m. ET

The Roger Clemens trial could be losing another juror.

US District Judge Reggie Walton said Friday afternoon that Juror No. 16 learned that her mother has died.

Walton recessed for the weekend immediately. He said the juror was too distraught to continue. He indicated he didn't expect the juror to continue in the trial, which has just wrapped up its sixth week.

Two jurors have already been dismissed for sleeping. If Juror No. 16 leaves, there will be only one alternate left in a trial expected to last at least two more weeks.

Juror No. 16 works in law enforcement with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority. Like most of the panel, she said at the outset of the trial that she had never heard of Clemens.
