Chicago Cubs unveil lottery system for buying playoff tickets
Starting Wednesday, September 7 at 9 a.m. Central Time, Chicago Cubs fans can sign up for a shot at buying tickets for single-game postseason tickets.
According to the team's site, they'll be offering fans a chance to win the opportunity to buy tickets to postseason games this fall, starting with the unlikely proposition of a Cubs wild-card series and extending as far as their possible World Series games at Wrigley Field.
Registration requires name, email, address and typical fare, and the drawings will be done at "random" from the pool of eligible fans who've completed the online registration process.
The team also notes that those who registered for a chance at playoff tickets in 2015 will have to do so again for 2016. The date for the Cubs' first drawing has yet to be announced, but registration for wild-card and NLDS ends at noon CT on Wednesday, September 21.
Those selected will receive an email with instructions on how to buy a max of four tickets to a single postseason. Per the Chicago Tribune's Tim Bannon, the Cubs are rightfully expecting a deluge of applicants.
"Demand will certainly exceed the limited number of tickets we have available for postseason play at Wrigley Field," said Cubs senior VP of sales and marketing Colin Faulkner in a statement. "We encourage fans to register early and purchase quickly if their name is selected."
Fans not selected for the early postseason rounds will remain in the pool for later games if applicable. Note: Last season, nearly 1.2 million people registered for postseason Cubs tickets. So get at it, Cubs nation.
