Chavez slides back into A's rotation after 'emotional' Graveman optioned

In a move that isn't entirely surprising considering his early success out of the bullpen, right-hander Jesse Chavez has rejoined the Oakland A's rotation due to some Sunday roster moves.

After a tough start on Saturday, young starter Kendall Graveman was optioned to Triple-A Nashville, the A's announced:

That move opened up a rotation spot, and Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle then updated that Chavez will assume Graveman's role while the rookie is at Triple-A:

Chavez, 31, was a versatile, valuable part of the pitching staff in 2014 due to his dual ability to start and work out of the bullpen. Just last Thursday, he allowed one hit to the Los Angeles Angels but wound up the tough-luck 2-0 loser. He had only missed out on a rotation spot to start the 2015 season because of his versatility and the A's pitching depth, but with Graveman needing some more seasoning in the minors a vacancy developed in the staff.

As for Graveman, Slusser tweeted that the young pitcher was upset about his inconsistency this season but is eager to work alongside veteran Barry Zito at Triple-A Nashville:
