Castillo, Robinson sign minor deals with Rangers

Right-hander Fabio Castillo and catcher Chris Robinson have signed minor league contracts with the Texas Rangers that include invitations to major league spring training with the two-time defending American League champions.

The signings were announced Thursday, three days after Castillo wasn't tendered a contract by the Rangers and became a free agent.

The Rangers also signed left-handers Kyle Fernandes and Zach Jackson, right-handers Derek Hankins and Doug Salinas and outfielder Orlando Sandoval to minor league contracts.

The 22-year-old Castillo was 3-6 with nine saves and a 6.36 ERA in 42 relief appearances at Double-A Frisco last season and has been in the Texas organization since signing as a non-draft free agent in July 2005.
