Cashman's wife files for divorce

Published Feb. 4, 2012 12:00 a.m. ET

The wife of Yankees general manager Brian Cashman filed divorce papers Friday, a day after prosecutors charged a woman with stalking him and extorting money over an extramarital affair.

Mary Cashman filed the paperwork Friday at a court in Stamford, Conn.

Her lawyer didn't immediately return a phone message Saturday. A spokesman for Brian Cashman said the family wouldn't have any comment.

On Thursday, Manhattan prosecutors charged 36-year-old Louise Neathway with harassing the Yankee general manager and threatening to harm his reputation if he didn't give her thousands of dollars.

Neathway's lawyers say it isn't true, and that Cashman turned on her when their relationship ended badly.

A person familiar with the family says Cashman and his wife have been separated and living apart for a year.
