Cardinals may be counting on Maness

With Jordan Walden on the Disabled List, the Cardinals have had to reshuffle their bullpen responsibilities a bit.

While MLB.com's Jenifer Langosch believes the eighth inning will now be handled “largely by committee” she also believes the team could rely on Seth Maness.

“Expect to see Seth Maness get much of the eighth-inning work,” Langosch writes. “While we've grown accustomed to seeing Maness summoned when the team needs a double play, the Cardinals like how the right-hander fits in a setup role.”

Maness has a 3.38 ERA over 13 1/3 innings so far this season and is his career he's pitched in the eighth inning 47 times.

In those 47 appearances, he's posted a 2.12 ERA.
