Brian Wilson to work out for scouts
Former San Francisco Giants closer Brian Wilson will work out for scouts Thursday in Los Angeles, CBS Sports reports.
Wilson, a.k.a. The Beard, is recovering from Tommy John surgery – the second reconstructive elbow procedure of his career – and hasn’t pitched since April 12 of the 2012 season.
According to CBS Sports, Wilson worked out for the Mets in January but wasn’t impressive and opted to work out on his own until he felt he was fully healthy.
Wilson, who became a free agent following the 2012 season, saved at least 36 games in each season from 2008 to 2011 and led the majors with 48 saves in 2010. He went 6-4 with a 3.11 ERA and 36 saves in 2011, his last full season in the majors in 2011.
The 31-year-old righthander was drafted by the Giants in 2003 and has spent his entire career with the organization.
