Brewers put reliever Henderson on DL

CINCINNATI (AP) The Brewers put right-handed reliever Jim Henderson on the 15-day disabled list with a sore shoulder on Friday, a day after he got hit hard during a loss to the Reds.

Henderson gave up Brayan Pena's tiebreaking, two-run homer and four hits overall during the eighth inning of Cincinnati's 8-3 win on Thursday night. He retired only two batters during the five-rally.

Manager Ron Roenicke said Henderson has been bothered by tightness in the shoulder on occasion and had trouble getting loose.

''It's not anything major,'' Roenicke said. ''It's something that he was trying to get through. One outing he'd be pretty good, have good stuff. The next outing he couldn't get loose. Last night was one of those. He saw the doctor. He's got some irritation.''

Henderson is 2-1 with a 7.15 ERA in 14 appearances, giving up 14 hits and nine earned runs in 11 1-3 innings.

The Brewers called up outfielder Caleb Gindl from Triple-A Nashville. Milwaukee started infielder Mark Reynolds in right field on Thursday night because it was short-handed in the outfield. Gindl was in the starting lineup on Friday against the Reds.

Gindl made his debut with the Brewers last season, batting .242 with five homers in 57 games, including 34 starts. He batted .284 with two homers at Nashville this season.

''I was fine with Reynolds in the outfield last night, but he's not a true outfielder,'' Roenicke said. ''So I feel better putting a guy who is an outfielder (there) and a guy who is swinging the bat well. That's probably the biggest thing.''
