Brewers C Lucroy breaks right pinkie finger

Published Feb. 23, 2011 11:28 p.m. ET

Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy will have surgery on his right pinkie finger after breaking it during a blocking drill on Wednesday.

Lucroy will have a pin inserted in the finger Thursday and is expected to miss four weeks, cutting it close to being ready for opening day. The 24-year-old Lucroy had a splint around the finger in the clubhouse, but declined comment because he hadn't seen the specialist yet.

Lucroy hit .253 with four homers and 26 RBIs in 75 games last year after beginning the season at Double-A Huntsville.

Right-hander Mark Rogers, a former first-round pick, ended a live batting practice session early, and right-hander Zack Greinke didn't throw as scheduled with a ribcage bruise. Neither injury is considered serious.
