Braves lose Pastornicky for season

Published Aug. 16, 2013 1:00 a.m. ET

The Atlanta Braves say infielder Tyler Pastornicky is out for the season after injuring his left knee in a collision with teammate Jason Heyward.

Pastornicky will undergo surgery on Monday to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament, adding another player to first-place Atlanta's already extensive disabled list. He took over as the starting second baseman just this week when Dan Uggla went on the DL to have eye surgery.

Pastornicky was injured in Wednesday's victory over the Phillies when he was knocked over by Heyward as the both attempted to catch a pop fly.

The Braves are calling up infielder Phil Gosselin from Triple-A Gwinnett. He will be in uniform for Friday night's game against Washington.

Gosselin is hitting .277 with two homers and 11 RBIs in the minors.
