Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez says infielder Ramiro Pena has undergone season-ending surgery to repair a tear in the back of his right shoulder.
Pena, a three-year veteran in his first season with Atlanta, will be out until the start of spring training next year. He had surgery Thursday.
Pena played in 50 games this year and hit .278 with three homers and 12 RBIs in 97 at-bats. He started seven games at shortstop, six at second base and five at third. The Braves recalled infielder Paul Janish from Triple-A Gwinnett on June 21 to take his spot on the 25-man roster.
Pena signed a one-year contract in December after spending parts of the last four seasons with the New York Yankees.
