Braves activate Laird from DL

Published Aug. 11, 2013 1:00 a.m. ET

The Atlanta Braves have activated catcher Gerald Laird from the 15-day disabled list and optioned outfielder Todd Cunningham to Triple-A Gwinnett.

Laird was placed on the disabled list on Aug. 3, retroactive to July 26, after having kidney stones removed. He is with the Braves for Sunday's game against Miami.

Cunningham was recalled from Gwinnett on July 30 when outfielder Reed Johnson was placed on the disabled list with left Achilles tendinitis. Cunningham had two hits in six at-bats with Atlanta.

Laird is hitting .293 with one homer and 11 RBIs. The emergence of rookie catcher Evan Gattis has cut into Laird's playing time.
