BOSTON (AP) Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia was ejected at the end of the third inning in Sunday's game against Tampa Bay by home plate umpire D.J. Reyburn.
Pedroia, who returned to the lineup after missing Saturday night's game with a sore right hand, took a strike early in his at-bat in the inning and said something to Reyburn. After he bounced to short, he headed to the dugout.
David Ortiz then struck out before Pedroia was ejected. Manager John Farrell argued, but remained in the game.
Pedroia was replaced in the batting order by Garin Cecchini, who was making his major league debut and playing third. Jonathan Herrera moved from third to second.
