Bochy announces Giants' Game 4 starter

The San Francisco Giants have some breathing room in the NL Division Series with Atlanta.

They are up 2-games-to-1 in the best of five series.

Manager Bruce Bochy sees no reason to push the envelope too quickly.

Bochy announced on Sunday night that left-hander Madison Bumgarner, the 21-year-old rookie, will start Game 4 at Atlanta on Monday night, putting an end to speculation that Tim Lincecum, who pitched a two-hitter in Game 1, could be brought back on three days of rest.

Lincecum, instead, will be ready to work on five days of rest in a Game 5, if it is needed, at San Francisco on Wednesday night. And if the Giants were to wrap up the NLDS on Monday, Lincecum then would be set for Game 1 of the NLCS on Saturday, having had eight days to rest since his NLDS effort.

"He's got great poise out there and good stuff,'' Bochy said of Bumganrer. "The kid has no fear. He is a young kid that has a great way about how he handles things.''

Bumgarner opened the season at Triple-A Fresno, where he was 7-1 with a 3.18 ERA before joining the Giants in late June. He was 7-6 with a 3.00 ERA in 18 big-league starts. the Giants were 11-7 in his starts, and after losing his first two starts for the Giants this year Bumgarner was 7-4 with a 2.78 ERA.
