Blue Jays call up OF Anthony Gose
The Toronto Blue Jays have recalled Anthony Gose from Triple-A, even though the outfield prospect was hitting .227 with two homers and five steals this season in Buffalo.
The Blue Jays optioned right-hander Mickey Storey to Buffalo. Storey appeared in two games for Toronto, allowing three runs in 3 2-3 innings.
''Definitely surprised,'' said Gose, who hit .223 in 56 major league games with Toronto last season. ''''I didn't even know what to think. They called me this morning, told me I was going up. I kept asking was it real? I didn't know what was happening. ... I just couldn't believe I was going up.''
With the Blue Jays, Gose can help take the load off of Melky Cabrera, coming in as defensive replacement late in games so Cabrera can rest his balky hamstring. Toronto manager John Gibbons says he doesn't know if Gose will be a short- or long-term addition, saying ''we'll see how it develops.''
Gose did have a .343 on-base percentage in 40 games with the Bisons this season, along with five doubles, two triples, and two home runs.
''He'll help us in different ways,'' Gibbons said. ''And we like him.''
