Before Stanton, McGwire the last to hit ball out of Dodger Stadium

Giancarlo Stanton’s monstrous home run on Tuesday prompted a look back at who were the other players who have hit the ball beyond the outfield pavilions at Dodger Stadium. Dodgers hitting coach Mark McGwire was the last to do so. He did it while playing for the Cardinals in 1999. If you thought Stanton’s home run was majestic, McGwire’s shot to left-center field was arguably even more jaw-dropping.

The only Dodger to hit one beyond the pavilion was Mike Piazza in 1997.

Before those two, Willie Stargell was the only other player to hit one out of the stadium -- he did it twice. One of those shots was measured at 506 feet. Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be any video of either of his moon shots.
