Astros RF Pence could miss time with hurt hip
Astros right fielder Hunter Pence left Houston's 8-4 loss to the Washington Nationals on Tuesday night in the middle of the first inning because of pain in his right hip flexor and could miss a couple of games.
Pence was bothered while running to first base when he grounded out to third in the top of the first. He did not come out to play the field in the bottom of the inning, replaced by Brian Bogusevic.
''It wasn't serious, but when you tweak something like that, you can't run through it. It's impossible,'' Pence said after the game. ''So I knew that I wasn't going to be capable to sprint again. I'd have to jog, and that's not acceptable.''
Pence said the hip had been ''bugging'' him a little and he might have ''pushed through too hard'' while running to first base. He expects that with treatment, he can ''get back out there in two to three days, hopefully.''
Pence entered Tuesday batting .281 this season, with a team-high 24 homers and 85 RBIs.
''It's probably a day-to-day thing. Might be a couple days,'' Astros manager Brad Mills said. ''We're just going to have to wait and see how it is.''
