The Oakland Athletics have placed right-hander Justin Duchscherer back on the 15-day disabled list one day after his scheduled start was scrapped because of recurring inflammation in his left hip.

Duchscherer was 2-1 with a 2.89 ERA in five starts this year.

The A's also optioned backup catcher Josh Donaldson to Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday and reinstated catcher Kurt Suzuki from the DL after he missed 19 games with an intercostal strain.

Right-hander Chad Gaudin was designated for assignment after giving up eight earned runs, 12 hits and four homers in 4 1/3 innings during his previous two outings.

Also, the A's selected the contract of left-hander Cedric Bowers and recalled right-hander Henry Rodriguez. He had been optioned to Sacramento to make room for Duchscherer.
