A's DH Adam Dunn plans to retire following Wild Card Game loss

Oakland Athletics DH Adam Dunn is leaning toward retirement following the team's loss to the Kansas City Royals in the American League Wild Card Game.

"This is probably it," said the 34-year-old Dunn, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Dunn, who never had reached the postseason in his 14-year major-league career, never got off the bench in Tuesday night's 12-inning loss. His 2,001-game playoff drought was the longest among all active players.

"Not at all," Dunn said when asked if he was disappointed, according to MLB.com. "Let's not make a bigger deal out of it. I love Bob [Melvin]. He's one of the best managers I've ever played for. He's as good as there is out there. You wish the best for a guy like that. He's awesome. Awesome."

Dunn was acquired from the Chicago White Sox on August 31 this season, and hit .212 with two homers and 10 RBI for the A's in 25 games.

If this is the end for Dunn, the two-time All-Star will finish his career with 462 homers and 1,168 RBI.
