Anthem singer botches 'O Canada' before Red Sox game

Updated Mar. 5, 2020 12:08 a.m. ET

BOSTON (AP) The singer tabbed for the Canadian national anthem before Friday night's game between the Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox botched both the melody and the lyrics, drawing boos from a crowd that included a sizeable Toronto contingent.

Jack Donahue, of Worcester, Massachusetts, ran into trouble early on, mixing the melody from a later segment in with the first verse of ''O Canada.'' Then he seemed to forget the words before consulting his notes and finishing strong.

A woman lined up for the U.S. anthem performed without incident.
