Angels activate pitcher Cory Rasmus from disabled list

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 1:09 p.m. ET

NEW YORK (AP) Right-hander Cory Rasmus has been activated from the 15-day disabled list by the Los Angeles Angels after recovering from a strained left groin.

Rasmus felt pain when he pitched on May 12 and the Angels put him on the DL five days later, a move retroactive to May 13. To clear a roster spot, the Angels optioned left-hander Greg Mahle to Triple-A Salt Lake after Wednesday's loss to the New York Yankees.

Rasmus, 0-2 with a 5.59 ERA in one start and 10 relief appearances, is not a candidate to start Sunday against Cleveland.

''We'll see where he can fit into our `pen,'' Angels manager Mike Scioscia said.

Tim Lincecum is slated to make at least one more appearance at Triple-A.

Shortstop Andrelton Simmons, recovering from surgery May 16 to repair a torn ligament in his left thumb, was to start an injury rehabilitation assignment Thursday at Salt Lake. He will spend at least two games there, according to Scioscia.
