A Padres fan lost his beer after taking line drive to the stomach

Dropping your beer at a sporting even can be a real gut-punch, considering how overpriced brews are at certain venues. But to drop that beer after taking a literal blow to the gut? Well, that's demoralizing.

That was the sad reality for a Padres fan on Thursday night when he attempted to reel in a foul ball off the bat of Alex Dickerson in San Diego. Not only did he fail to get his mitts on the souvenir, it struck him square in the stomach and caused him to spill a good portion of his presumably expensive suds. Talk about a tough night.

Not only is it humiliating to misplay a ball as badly as this guy did, but the real dagger is that there's a real possibility it could have been a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. The odds of one individual attending an MLB game and reeling in a souvenir baseball in a stadium full of people are pretty thin. (Unless your name is Zack Hample, of course.) Some people spend their entire lives attending games and never get the opportunity to snag a home run or foul ball, so letting one slip out of grasp is always heartbreaking.

But imagine that this was your one chance, and this is what you did with it? Well, you'd probably need to be consoled too.

Poor guy. Hopefully this turns into a redemption story at some point.
