Is Vernon Adams Jr. on track to become Oregon's starter?

Will Vernon Adams Jr. start for Oregon at QB this season? It's the one question everybody at Oregon wants answered.

As Aaron Fentress of Comcast Sportsnet Northwest writes, the belief is Adams' time is coming:

"Make no mistake. It's only a matter of time before Adams takes overt as the Ducks starting quarterback. He is flat out the best quarterback on the team, with all apologies to redshirt junior Jeff Lockie.

Word from behind the fortress of solitude is that Adams is making special plays with his feet and his arm. Plus, he is grasping things quite well. He doesn't need to learn every piece of the offense in a few weeks since joining the team late while working on passing a math class."

There are others around Oregon's program who have been impressed by Adams so far, including some of his wide receivers.

"He looked real good making throws and making D-linemen miss and getting the ball where he needs it to be," receiver Dwayne Stanford said, according to Fentress. Sophomore wide receiver Charles Nelson added, ""He's a guy that likes to put it out there and let us receivers go out there and make something happen. That's what we like."

As for head coach Mark Helfrich's thoughts:

"You can tell he has a lot of ability," Helfrich said, according to Fentress. "He is just trying to figure things out."

We'll know sooner or later, but it looks like Oregon's QB competition is officially on.
