Mike Wallace: 'Without a doubt, I'm the fastest player in the NFL'

New Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Mike Wallace isn’t lacking confidence less than two months after being exiled from the Miami Dolphins.

The 28-year-old receiver, who wore out his welcome in South Beach, had this to say recently about who he believes the fastest player in the NFL is right now.

"Without a doubt, I’m the fastest player in the NFL,” Wallace told the Pioneer Press this week. “If somebody feels foggy about that, we can [race]. I’m never going to back down from competition.

While he obviously isn’t mincing words here, no one really questions Wallace’s speed as playing an important part of what he does on the field. It was his attitude and hands that forced him from Miami after signing a lucrative five-year, $60 million contract back in 2013.

Wallace continued:

"I’ve run a lot of routes and I’ve got a lot of miles on my legs, but I still feel that there’s nobody who can run with me. I might have slowed down a little but I could still run 4.25."

As ESPN points out, Wallace ran a 4.33 40-yard dash at the combine in 2009. This year alone, former Alabama-Birmingham wide receiver J.J. Nelson topped Wallace’s time with a 4.28 40-yard dash in Indy.

His struggles in Miami aside, Wallace was still able to put up 140 receptions for nearly 1,800 yards and 15 touchdowns in two seasons with the team. He’s going to provide Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater with the deep threat that the second-year signal caller desperately needs. Probably a better fit in Minnesota than Miami, Wallace will look to get his career back on track this year.

Let’s just hope he doesn’t strain something attempting to prove a point on the actual track before then.
