Looking at first-team reps With Sony Michel still rehabbing from foot surgery, Harris has a big opportunity ahead during training camp, Jeff Howe of The Athletic reports.
Impact Even before Michel's foot surgery was reported, there was some thought Harris might challenge for the lead ballcarrier role this upcoming season. It's a nice opportunity for the 2019 third-round pick, but he's still facing the reality of a crowded backfield, one where James White, Rex Burkhead and Lamar Miller could also take first-team reps in the coming weeks.

Impact Michel remains in recovery mode from May foot surgery, which was undertaken to mitigate lingering discomfort. The maintenance-based procedure has left him with at least a two-month rehabilitation and seemingly longer, if Howe's report is to be believed. Per the terms of the amended collective bargaining agreement, teams can begin to practice Aug. 12, with a start date of Aug. 17 for padded sessions. Once he's able to get back on the field, Michel will look to fend off Damien Harris and Rex Burkhead for early down work in the Patriots offense.

Impact While most players won't be allowed to use NFL team facilities until training camp, guys who are rehabbing injuries have been permitted to work with trainers. Michel had foot surgery in May, with reports suggesting it was a minor procedure to relieve lingering discomfort. He doesn't appear to be using a walking boot, but it's otherwise unclear how he's progressing through the rehab process. Any missed practice time could free up additional first-team reps for Damien Harris and Rex Burkhead.
