Secures visa, pitching Saturday
Manager A.J. Hinch said Wednesday that Pineda (not injury related) has secured his work visa and will make his Grapefruit League debut Saturday against the Orioles, Evan Woodbery o...
Impact
Pineda didn't reach a deal with the Tigers in free agency until March 18, with his late signing paired with a work visa issue putting him behind schedule with his buildup program. Now that he's had his visa approved, the 33-year-old will report to camp, but expect him to pitch only an inning or two against the Yankees. From there, Hinch said that Pineda will continue to build up his pitch count at Triple-A Toledo, where he's expected to make a couple of starts to begin the season. If all goes well, Pineda should be ready to make his 2022 big-league debut in mid-to-late April, when he'll likely replace Tyler Alexander in Detroit's rotation.

Will miss one or two starts
Pineda (not injury related) will miss a start or two at the beginning of the regular season, Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports.
Impact
Pineda didn't sign with the Tigers until March 18 and was behind schedule due to visa issues. He'll fill a rotation role once he's built up his workload, but Tyler Alexander is expected to take his place for a turn or two to start the year.

Behind schedule
Pineda may not be ready for his first turn in the rotation due to getting a late start and an issue with his work visa, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Impact
He is in Florida with the team, but he is behind schedule with his throwing program. Tyler Alexander will remain stretched out indefinitely to serve as the fifth starter, but it doesn't sound like Pineda will miss much time.

Lands with Tigers
Pineda signed a one-year, $5.5 million contract with the Tigers on Friday, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports. The deal also has $2.5 million in incentives.
Impact
The 33-year-old righty is coming off a year with the Twins where he logged a 3.62 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 88 strikeouts in 109.1 innings. The Tigers have a few rotation spots nailed down, and Pineda figures to slot in fourth behind Eduardo Rodriguez, Tarik Skubal and Casey Mize.

Earns ninth win with strong effort
Pineda (9-8) allowed one run and scattered eight hits over 5.2 innings to earn the win Wednesday against the Tigers. He also had five strikeouts.
Impact
Pineda closed out his 2021 campaign by winning his final five decisions, holding opponents to two runs or fewer in each of them. The 32-year-old limited the Tigers to a Harold Castro run-scoring single in the fourth inning Wednesday and was one out away from a quality start before being lifted with two on in the fifth. Pineda logged a sparkling 1.85 ERA during his five-game winning streak in September and finished the season with a 3.62 mark in 109.1 innings overall.

Secures fourth straight win
Pineda (8-8) earned the win Thursday against the Blue Jays after allowing two runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out two across five innings.
Impact
Pineda has won his last four outings and while he has given up two or fewer runs in each trip to the mound, he hasn't been able to complete six innings in either one of those starts. He owns a strong 1.93 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP across 18.2 innings in four September appearances.
