Won't return this week The Twins don't plan to reinstate Pineda (oblique) from the 10-day injured list this week, Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Impact Pineda threw a 35-pitch bullpen session over the weekend and appears to be making good progress in his recovery from a left oblique strain, but the Twins may want to see him face hitters in a simulated game before signing off on activating him. While Pineda remains on the shelf, the Twins are expected to add two new starters to the mix this week in Joe Ryan (Wednesday against the Cubs) and Randy Dobnak (Friday against the Rays).

Impact Pineda left his start Friday against the Rays with what was originally called side tightness, but the injured turned out to be serious enough to cost him at least one turn in the rotation. Exactly how much time he'll miss remains to be seen. Ralph Garza Jr. was recalled in a corresponding move.

Likely heading to IL Pineda will likely require a trip to the injured list due to a strained oblique, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports.

Impact Pineda was initially diagnosed with left side tightness after he left Friday's loss to the Rays, but manager Rocco Baldelli revealed after the game that the righty is dealing with a strain. The 32-year-old is expected to miss at least one turn through the rotation due to the injury, while Danny Coulombe and Beau Burrows could be candidates to start in his place.
