Report: TE Jermaine Gresham visiting Green Bay Packers

The Green Bay Packers are keeping their options open at tight end. Projected starter Andrew Quarless is likely to face a suspension, after his arrest for discharging a gun in public earlier this month. Backup Richard Rodgers only has one year of experience, and the rest of the pack has next to nothing.

The Packers could give their weakest offensive position some stability by signing veteran Jermaine Gresham. The former Cincinnati Bengals tight end is visiting with the team, sources tell NFL Network's Rand Getlin.

Gresham, 27, was a first-round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft (21st overall). Through five seasons, he has made two Pro Bowls (2011-2012) and caught 280 passes for 2,722 yards and 24 touchdowns. Last season, Gresham missed only one game and fell two catches shy of his career-high mark (64).

However, Gresham was diagnosed with a herniated disc in mid-March and is only four months removed from surgery. The Bengals decided to move on at the tight end position, so signing with a new team has been difficult for Gresham. Acquiring him now comes with a considerable health risk.

Gresham, who was being pursued by the Oakland Raiders when the injury popped up, also visited the Arizona Cardinals this week and the New Orleans Saints last month, according to Jason Wilde of ESPN Wisconsin.
