Vikings purchase 185-acre site for future headquarters

The Minnesota Vikings now own 185 acres of land in Eagan, after finalizing the purchase on Tuesday. This opens the door for the franchise to relocate its training facility and headquarters, which are currently located in Eden Prairie.

In an official press release, Vikings owner Zygi Wilf touted the new location's proximity to downtown Minneapolis and St. Paul, as well as the airport. Eagan is about 20 miles east of Eden Prairie.

The Vikings are in the middle of getting a major facelift. In addition to this news, the construction of U.S. Bank Stadium is nearing its completion. The team is expected to break in the new venue in 2016, after playing home games at the University of Minnesota's TCF Bank Stadium the past two seasons.

Minnesota is experiencing a transition on the field, too. In Mike Zimmer's second season as head coach, he led the team to an 11-5 record and the franchise's first NFC North title since 2009.

It's certainly an exciting time to be a fan of the Vikings.
