Hue Jackson says Griffin's performance wasn't bad for 'a guy that hadn't played'

Cleveland Browns coach Hue Jackson opted to focus on the positive when asked about Robert Griffin's performance in the team's preseason opener. Though Jackson liked some things he saw from RGIII, he admitted that he needs to clean up the mistakes before the regular-season opener.

"There were some things that he did good,'' Jackson said Saturday, via the Cleveland Plain-Dealer. "Obviously we can't have a fumbled snap the second play of the game and you never want to see the turnover. But I thought he stood in the pocket and looked real relaxed, kept his poise and tried to make some throws downfield. Obviously the first play was a great way to start, and that's something to build on. But I thought for a guy that hadn't played in a while, I thought there were some positives there."

In Griffin's two series of action, he completed 4 of 8 passes for 67 yards with no touchdowns and one interception, far from the first impression he would have wanted to make. But he did have his moments, like the 49-yard bomb he threw to Terrelle Pryor on the Browns' first play of the game Friday.

It's understandable why Jackson would be grading Griffin's performance on a curve, considering the former No. 2-overall pick hasn't played in a regular-season game since 2014 when he was with the Redskins. It was RGIII's first live action since August 2015.
